Hello quarter-life crisis!

Angry New Yorker

Remember that episode of SATC where Carrie wakes up in the middle of the night (or actually it’s probably at sunrise) because of a rooster (her saying it’s a chicken) crowing outside her window? The next morning she walks into the vet’s next to her apartment and asks for the rooster to be moved inside. The assistant says it has been saved from a rooster fight in the South Bronx… Yes? No?

Anyway, I had a rooster outside a couple of nights ago. Or more like constructions, where they seriously thought it was a brilliant idea to use the Jack Hammer in the middle of the night, and on top of that play loud Spanish music to their enjoyment. For me it was more a feeling of being held hostage of from my beauty sleep at 2AM. Pillows covering my ears wasn’t even enough to put me to sleep again. So there I was hating myself for not spending the night at my boyfriend’s house, and reminding myself to buy ear plugs ASAP! (Can you use ear plugs and still wake up by your alarm in the morning? The struggle is real here…) The next morning the non-beauty sleep let me to a whole other problem. I was in the subway, and randomly looked out the window (out in the dark, so basically just at my own reflection), and I tell you, I could see the dark circles under my eyes. In a window reflection! Just save me, please.

It is funny, because when I moved into my room, my roommate warned me about the noise from outside. I was like “Ya, New York is loud, but I’m getting used to it, so it’s fine”. Well, I’m not fine with loudness in the early AMs it appears. And I think, I now know why New Yorkers tend to be so angry. All the morning swearing on the subway, and the honking. I get it now.

They say it’s The City that never sleeps. I always knew that, but me and my dark circles has definitely joined that category. (Any recommendations for a good eye/remove dark circles creme?)
